Changing Your Dial-Up Phone Number

Windows XP

1. Click on the 'Start' button and select 'Connect To' and then select your Online Services dial-up connection
2. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
3. Click on the Networking tab
4. Click on the Settings button
5. Make sure the check box that says 'negotiate multi-link for single link connecitons' is unchecked
6. Click 'OK'
7. Click 'OK' again

Windows 95/98/ME

1. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop
2. If you have a 'Dial-Up Networking' icon, double click on it. If you do not have a 'Dial-Up Networking' icon, double click on 'Control Panel' and then double click on 'Dial-Up Networking'.
3. Right mouse click on your Online Services dial-up connection icon and click on 'Properties' on the menu.
4. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
5. Click 'OK'

Windows 2000

1. Click on the 'Start' button and select 'Settings' and then select 'Network and Dial-Up Connections'.
2. Do a right mouse click on your dialup connection, a menu should appear, click on Properties
3. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
4. Click on the Networking tab
5. Click on the Settings button
6. Uncheck the "negotiate multi-link for single link connections" box
7. Click 'OK'
8. Click 'OK' again

Windows NT

1. Double click on the 'My Computer' icon on your desktop
2. Double click on the 'Dial-Up Networking' icon
3. Click on the 'More' button and choose 'Edit Entry and Modem Properties'
4. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
5. Click 'OK'

MacOS X

1. Click on the 'Apple' menu and select 'System Preference'
2. Click on the 'Network' icon and then click on the 'PPP' tab
3. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
4. Click on 'Apply Now'

MacOS 9

1. Click on the 'Apple' menu and select 'Control Panel'
2. Click on 'Remote Access'
3. Replace the current phone number with the new phone number
   • You do not need the area code unless you live in a 10-digit dialing area in which case you should add the area code directly in front of the phone number and not in the separate area code box
4. Exit the Remote Access screen. When you exit the screen, your computer will prompt you to save your changes by clicking the 'Save' button.
